Polaris Campsite, Chałupy — Hel Peninsula

Polaris is a large, deliberately simple campsite on the bay side of the Hel Peninsula, between the villages of Chałupy and Władysławowo. It is the last site in Chałupy that still lets you pitch a tent, and one of the cheapest places to sleep on the whole peninsula — which is why windsurfers and kitesurfers have been coming here for decades.

What to expect

This is camping in the old sense: a big grassy field by the water, sanitary blocks, a shop and a bar — and not much else. There are no hotel rooms, no wellness area and no reception ready to hold a pitch for you. What you get instead is direct access to Puck Bay, which is shallow, flat and windy — the reason this stretch of coast became the birthplace of Polish windsurfing.

The site has separate areas for tents, for caravans and campers, and a section rented for the whole season. Several kite and windsurfing schools keep their bases here through the summer.

Getting there

Chałupy lies on road 216, the single road running the length of the Hel Peninsula. By car from Gdańsk it is about 90 km; in July and August expect queues, so travel early. The SKM/PKP train to Hel stops in Chałupy and the campsite is a short walk from the station — in high season the train is genuinely faster than driving.

House rules worth knowing in advance

Pitches cannot be reserved — not for tents, not for caravans, not for campers. Arrival order decides. The minimum stay is 4 nights. You must check in and pay at reception before entering the grounds, and entering means accepting the site rules and price list, which are posted at every gate.
